A chargeback is a fan asking their card provider to reverse a payment. For the creator, it means money that was already counted can disappear from the balance weeks later. This guide explains what OnlyFans' Terms of Use say about it (checked 22 October 2026), what you can do, and what you cannot.

What the terms say

  • Creators carry the loss. If a fan successfully seeks a refund or chargeback, OnlyFans "may deduct an amount equal to the Creator Earnings portion of the refunded or chargedback amount".
  • Fans are bound too. Fans agree not to make unjustified refund requests or chargebacks, and OnlyFans may suspend or delete accounts that do so in bad faith.

For comparison, Fansly says it shields creators from chargebacks in most cases (OnlyFans vs Fansly).

Why large purchases carry more risk

The more a single fan spends, the more a single chargeback costs. That does not mean big spenders are a problem; most are your best fans. It means a sudden large spend from a brand-new account deserves a moment's attention, and so does a fan who has disputed before.

What you can do

StepWhy it helps
Keep your statementsYou can see exactly which payments were reversed and when
Note repeat patternsFans who dispute more than once can be blocked
Deliver what was sold, clearlyA fan who received what was described has less ground for a dispute
Answer platform requests quicklyReviews go faster with clear information
Plan with net, after refundsYour real income is after reversals

What you cannot do

You cannot contest a chargeback with the card provider yourself; the dispute runs between the fan, their bank and the platform. You also should not contact a fan outside the platform about it. Keep everything on the platform.

Chargebacks and agencies

If an agency takes its commission on gross billings, it may keep its share of a payment that was later charged back while you carry the loss. A commission on net earnings, as shown in the platform's statement, follows the money that actually reached you. Our contract glossary explains the clause, and the payouts guide shows where reversals appear. The earnings and net calculator shows your net after the platform's share.

Questions creators ask

Do creators lose money when a fan charges back on OnlyFans?

Yes. OnlyFans' terms say that if a fan successfully seeks a refund or chargeback, OnlyFans may deduct an amount equal to the creator's share of that payment from the creator.

Can I stop a fan from charging back?

Not directly. The dispute runs between the fan and their card provider. Fans agree in OnlyFans' terms not to make unjustified chargebacks, and OnlyFans may suspend fans who do so in bad faith. Keeping good records and blocking repeat offenders limits the damage.
