X is one of the few large networks that allow adult content, which is why many creators use it to reach buyers directly. The permission comes with rules, and the rules decide whether an account grows or gets restricted. Everything below is from X's own help pages, checked on 22 October 2026 (Adult Content policy, version May 2024).
What X allows, and where
| Where | Adult content allowed? |
|---|---|
| Posts, if marked as sensitive | Yes |
| Profile photo | No |
| Header image | No |
| Live video | No |
| List banners, Community cover photos | No |
X also states that users under 18, and users who have not added a birth date, cannot click through to view marked content.
The sensitive media setting
- Open Settings and privacy.
- Go to Privacy and safety.
- Open Your posts.
- Turn on "Mark media you post as containing material that may be sensitive".
Set it once for the account, so you never forget it on a single post.
What labelling does to reach
X's policy describes restricted reach for adult content: labelled media is shown behind a content warning and not to everyone. That is the price of posting it safely. For established creators it means your existing followers and searches matter more than going viral. Keep your profile and header safe for work, so the account itself stays discoverable.
Copyright notices and your privacy
If you file a copyright complaint on X, or someone files a counter-notice against you, personal details in the notice may be forwarded to the other party. If you work anonymously, consider having notices filed by an authorised agent. Our leak removal guide explains the options, and the DMCA notice generator lists what a notice must contain.
X in your channel mix
Use a separate OnlyFans tracking link for X and compare it with Reddit and Instagram as described in our traffic comparison. If the traffic is there but income is not, the gap is often in the inbox, not on X; our guide on whether an agency is worth it helps you find it.
Questions creators ask
